Faber-Castell 1111 pencil

Faber-Castell 1111 pencil
This is the final pencil in this August series on the pencils of Australia and New Zealand. Thanks again to Dave for sending me these pencils.

The Faber-Castell 1111 is an uncapped hexagonal pencil in matte black, simply marked:

SV 1111 21/2=HB Faber-Castell

It definitely looks nice in all black with minimal markings.

As a pencil, it’s like others in this series – not bad, but not exceptional. The lead is slightly scratchy, but on the plus side seems to hold a point unusually well. After a page of writing, it seems just as sharp.

  1. Probably it is of interest: the SV imprint stands for “Spezialverleimt” and means special glueing to avoid lead breaking.

  2. We have requested Price for Faber -Castell (ALIGATOR) TRADE MARK Pencil from the Germny office and still didn’t get reply. Could you inform us the MOQ and the price immediately.

  3. At the next supermarket, I just bought a cheap blister pack “Bleistift Set 21 11 97” (“Made in Germany”) of
    four FC 1111 pencils with
    a FC “DUST-FREE” 18 71 20 eraser (“Made in Malaysia”) and
an alu sharpener (“Made in Germany”, labeled 4 005401 831006 on bottom).

What made me buy the set is the “dust-free” claim for the eraser, as this made me hope it works as well as a foam eraser.
And it works indeed, it subjectively performs on par with the Pilot F10 foam eraser.
And the sharpener is good, too, it produces a smooth, unbroken peel and a sharp point.

  4. I own a Faber-Castell 1210, which has a TS mark in the same font like the SV mark here. Interestingly, it is quite different then the 1210 pencil you have reviewed, it has no eraser, and it’s orange. It also has a different Faber-Castell logo.

  5. Few days ago I wrote to Faber-Castell Germany to ask if the SV and TS marks in same font on some of their pencils means the same process but different languages, but sadly I didn’t get an answer, well I wrote in english wich is not the best since It’s not my mother tongue and my german is nil.

Well, I compiled this info from different Faber-Castell web sites as other around the world.

I have seen this SV mark since I was a kid, so I was intrigued because It looks very different “very modern” if you compared them with the rest of marks, when appeared the TS mark I could read on their pencil boxes -Técnica Sekural- as you can see on, https://www.penciltalk.org/2010/03/faber-castell-multiplication-table-pencil wich give me a clue, -It is Portuguese- now, thanks to Internet, and this is what I most like from the web I’m Not intrigued anymore!
I know that SV stands for the German word “Sekuralverfahren” meaning “secural bonding” or secure-all bonding as well as TS this process was patented in 1961. SV Bonding is a process of glueing the full length of the lead to the wood casing of the pencil. The secret is to use two different adhesives: the two tablets are glued together with a wood adhesive, and an elastic adhesive, specially developed for joining graphite. This strengthens the lead and prevents breakage which allows for better sharpening, and produces a fine point. SV Bonding is a Faber-Castell trademark.
    SV:”Sekuralverfahren” German.
TS: “Técnica Sekural” Portuguese. Spanish: “Sistema Secural” from a Faber Castell catalog fron the 80´s.
When I knew all this info I ask me, SO how the pencils were glueing before SV TS? again from Faber-Castell: “In past: The two slats were only spot-glued” Oops!.

Long story but I hope you find as Mr. Klaus write “Probably it is of interest”.
