Pencil Boxes (II) - Graf von Faber-Castell

Faber-Castell seems to be the sole major manufacturer currently offering a wooden box of pencils. And what a box it is!

Their offering has a removable lid, and it houses a dozen fantastic pencils, the Graf von Faber-Castell pencil.

The outer packaging says “12 bleistifte” (12 pencils), which although truthful, is an incredible understatement.

My only grumble is with regard to the plastic insert that actually surrounds the pencils - it seems kind of cheap for the neighborhood, and will likely become dirty from contact with graphite over time. Otherwise, well done!

I love these pencils! Where did you find the 12 pencil box?

Hi Marc,
This pencil box has been in the Graf von Faber-Castell catalogue for a couple of years. I’ve yet to see it at a retailer accessible to me, so I resorted to mail order!

I saw another box with eraser and pencil sharpener cap with clips. Incredible luxuries.

F-C’s presentation is quite simply to drool over, although I must agree the white plastic tray is something of a letdown. Upon first seeing your photos I thought the insert was glazed ceramic! Wouldn’t that be something now:>))). It would certainly be in keeping with the obvious quality of the pencils and the box.

Yet another question: I went to my local Faber Castell dealer and nothing. Is
this catalog online anywhere? Where can I go for mail order?
Also, check out the Helix Oxford pencils. I get them from pencilthings.

Hi Marc, I’m surprised! I did learn of this pencil box in a Faber-Fastell catalogue. It wasn’t a customer brochure, but rather a small order book for retailers. This was at a top fountain pen specialty store.
For mail order, I have had consistently excellent (And I mean excellent, not just good) experiences with Skripta-Paris, who get everything right the first time.
